Bandwidth and internet access at PortLAN are limited. Here's what you can do to make event day smoother.
Install Games Ahead
Downloading games will be slow during the event. Install your favorite games that you want to play beforehand to make sure you can get started right away. Even better, bring a flash drive to share local game files to speed up the process for your friends.
Enable Steam Client Sharing
Many of our games use Steam. Steam has a new feature that will allow you to download games from other clients on the LAN. This will only apply to games you own that other people have installed. Follow these steps to enable:
Steam > Settings > Downloads
Enable "Game File Transfers Over Local Network"
Set "Allow transfers form this PC to" dropdown to "Anyone"
You will be able to download game files from other users, and they will be able to source form you.
We love Discord, but it only runs over the internet. For local voice communication, we will be hosting a TeamSpeak server locally. Download and install TeamSpeak early and be ready to connect immediately.
